Website Hosting & Website Care Terms
Faraday Media provides website hosting and optional Website Care services for clients whose websites are hosted and/or maintained by us.
This page explains what is included within each service, what is not included, and the respective responsibilities of Faraday Media and the client.
All prices shown are exclusive of VAT, which will be added at the prevailing rate.
Website Hosting
£150 per year + VAT
Faraday Media hosting provides the infrastructure required to keep your website and, where applicable, email online.
Hosting includes:
- Up to 10 GB total storage for website files, databases and email
- Up to 5 GB for any individual email mailbox
- Email hosting where required
- SSL certificate for secure website access
- Management and maintenance of the hosting server
- Server-level security and monitoring
- Automatic daily off-site backups
- Website files, databases and hosted email included within backups
- Backups stored remotely, separately from the hosting server
- Weekly full backups with approximately four weeks of backup history
Backups
Faraday Media operates an automated backup system designed to provide a reasonable level of protection against data loss.
Backups are performed daily and stored in remote cloud storage separate from the main hosting server. Weekly full backups are retained on a rolling basis, providing approximately four weeks of backup history.
Although backups are monitored and maintained, no backup system can provide an absolute guarantee against data loss or guarantee that a usable backup will always be available.
Where reasonably possible, Faraday Media will use available backups to assist with website recovery.
What Website Hosting Does Not Include
The annual hosting charge covers the server and hosting environment. It does not include ongoing maintenance or security management of the individual WordPress website.
Unless you have an active Website Care plan, you remain responsible for:
- Updating WordPress
- Updating plugins and themes
- Monitoring WordPress security
- Responding to plugin, theme or WordPress vulnerabilities
- Checking that updates have not caused problems
- Investigating website errors
- Malware removal
- Repairing or recovering a compromised website
The annual hosting charge does not include training, instructions or technical support for carrying out these tasks.
Faraday Media can provide assistance when required at our standard rate of £75 per hour + VAT.
Website Care
£49 per month + VAT
or £529 per year + VAT when paid annually in advance
Website Care is for clients who would prefer Faraday Media to take responsibility for the routine technical maintenance and security monitoring of their WordPress website.
Website Care includes:
- Regular WordPress, plugin and theme updates
- Security and vulnerability monitoring
- Malware and security checks
- Backup monitoring
- Website uptime monitoring
- Checks following significant updates
- Resolving minor problems caused by routine updates
- Priority assistance with technical problems
- Initial investigation and recovery following a security incident, where reasonably possible
Updates may occasionally be delayed where Faraday Media considers that immediately installing an update could create a compatibility, security or stability problem.
Website Care does not include routine content alterations, new pages, redesign or development work. These services can be provided separately at our standard hourly rate or may be covered by Website Care Plus.
Website hosting is charged separately.
Website Care Plus
£85 per month + VAT
or £918 per year + VAT when paid annually in advance
Website Care Plus includes everything provided under Website Care, plus:
Up to one hour of minor website revisions and content changes each month.
This can be used for work such as:
- Changing or adding text
- Replacing images
- Adding or amending existing content
- Adding straightforward pages
- Minor layout changes
- Similar routine website alterations
Our normal website work is charged at £75 per hour + VAT.
Included Monthly Time
The included hour is intended for minor alterations and routine content work.
Unused time does not roll over from one month to another and has no cash value.
If requested work is likely to exceed the available monthly allowance, we will discuss this with you before carrying out additional chargeable work.
The included time does not cover substantial development, new functionality, major redesign work, complex programming or other larger projects. These will be quoted separately.
Website hosting is charged separately.
Website Security
Faraday Media takes website security seriously and uses regular maintenance, monitoring, updates and backups to reduce the likelihood and potential impact of a security incident.
However, no website, server or security system can be guaranteed to be completely immune from hacking, malware or other malicious activity.
Website Care therefore does not constitute a guarantee that a website cannot or will not be compromised.
Keeping WordPress, themes and plugins maintained, monitoring known vulnerabilities and responding promptly to security issues are important measures in reducing this risk.
If a Website Care Site Is Compromised
If a website covered by an active Website Care or Website Care Plus plan is compromised despite being maintained under the plan, Faraday Media will provide, at no additional charge and where reasonably possible:
- Initial investigation of the incident
- Malware removal
- Identification and correction of straightforward causes of the compromise
- Restoration from an available clean backup
- Routine work required to return the website to normal operation
This is subject to reasonable use and the normal scope of the Website Care service.
Extensive rebuilding, redevelopment or replacement of compromised third-party software is not included.
Additional work may also be chargeable where an incident results from circumstances outside Faraday Media’s reasonable control or outside the scope of the Website Care service.
We will discuss any additional charges with you before carrying out chargeable work.
Websites Without a Website Care Plan
There is no obligation to purchase Website Care from Faraday Media. Clients are welcome to use Faraday Media hosting and maintain their WordPress website themselves.
Where Hosting Only is selected, responsibility for maintaining the WordPress installation, plugins and themes and monitoring website-level security remains with the client.
If an unmanaged website becomes compromised, contains malware, becomes seriously out of date or otherwise presents a security risk to the hosting server or other websites, Faraday Media reserves the right to temporarily restrict or suspend the affected website where reasonably necessary to protect the hosting environment.
Where practical, we will contact the client before taking such action. However, immediate action may occasionally be necessary where there is an active security threat.
Investigation, malware removal, repair and recovery of an unmanaged website are not included within the annual hosting charge and will normally be charged at £75 per hour + VAT.
Third-Party Software & Services
WordPress websites commonly rely upon software and services supplied by third parties, including WordPress itself, plugins, themes, APIs and external online services.
Faraday Media cannot guarantee the continued availability, compatibility, security or functionality of third-party products and services.
Where a third-party update causes a problem, we will take reasonable steps within the scope of the applicable Website Care plan to investigate and resolve it.
Major redevelopment or replacement required because third-party software has been discontinued, becomes incompatible or is no longer supported is not included and may be quoted separately.
Client Responsibilities
Clients remain responsible for the content of their website and for ensuring they have the necessary rights and permissions for any text, photographs, images, data or other material supplied to Faraday Media or published on their website.
Clients are also responsible for taking reasonable precautions to protect their account credentials, including using appropriate passwords and not knowingly providing website or hosting access to unauthorised parties.
Faraday Media cannot accept responsibility for security incidents resulting from access credentials being disclosed by the client or another authorised user.
Payment & Renewal
Website Hosting is charged annually.
Website Care and Website Care Plus may be paid monthly or annually in advance.
Current prices are:
Website Hosting — £150/year + VAT
Website Care — £49/month + VAT or £529/year + VAT
Website Care Plus — £85/month + VAT or £918/year + VAT
Website hosting is charged separately from Website Care and Website Care Plus.
Faraday Media may review its prices from time to time. Clients will be given reasonable notice of any price change affecting their service.
Cancellation
Website Care services may be cancelled by notifying Faraday Media.
Where Website Care or Website Care Plus has been paid annually in advance, the reduced annual price is provided in return for an annual commitment and unused months are not normally refundable.
Cancellation of Website Care does not automatically cancel website hosting.
Once a Website Care plan ends, responsibility for ongoing WordPress maintenance and website-level security returns to the client.
Fair Use
Website Care is intended to provide ongoing maintenance and support for a normally functioning WordPress website.
It is not intended to provide unlimited development, repair or technical support.
If a website requires an unusually large amount of work because of its complexity, condition, third-party software or other circumstances, Faraday Media will discuss this with the client before undertaking work outside the normal scope of the service.
Service Limitations
Faraday Media will use reasonable care and skill in providing hosting, maintenance, monitoring, backup and recovery services.
Websites and internet services depend upon numerous systems and third-party services. Consequently, uninterrupted operation cannot be guaranteed.
Faraday Media cannot guarantee that a website will always be available, completely error-free, immune from security incidents, or that data can always be recovered following an incident.
Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude or limit any rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Which Service Do I Need?
Hosting Only — £150/year + VAT
For clients who are happy to take responsibility for maintaining and securing their own WordPress website.
Website Care — £49/month + VAT or £529/year + VAT
For clients who would like Faraday Media to take care of their WordPress maintenance, updates, security monitoring and routine technical maintenance.
Website Care Plus — £85/month + VAT or £918/year + VAT
Everything included with Website Care, plus up to one hour of minor website revisions and content changes each month.
Website hosting is charged separately from both Website Care plans.
